Colour Me Pretty
I was driving behind a car recently, and the last three digits of their number plate was 9KR...
Automatically I thought, oh level 9 copper red....lol
And I always do it when asking for a CCV number on the back of someones card....
are you an 822, or a 923....I instantly think colour...( Crazy hey, but I bet I am not the only one who does it....)
as hairdressers, we talk another language to each other. we probably don’t notice it. but when we discuss colours in front of clients, as I was doing with a client the other day, they are fascinated by our language, this counter acts this, why blue would be in a copper colour, 7.431 this, 7.33 that…
They wonder what the heck we are going on about, it’s a skill of ours, one of the things that makes us colourists, and as my client said to me, she thought hairdressing was easy till she trained as one…
Our colour wheel is universal, we use it, artists use it, painters, photographers, and our numbering system is too.
.3 is gold world wide
So when was modern hair colour invented.....
The Industrial Revolution: The birth of modern hair dye
The Industrial Revolution brought about significant advancements in science and technology, which led to the development of synthetic hair dyes. In 1863, English chemist William Henry Perkin accidentally discovered the first synthetic dye, a vibrant shade of purple known as mauveine. While this discovery was initially intended for the textile industry, it paved the way for the development of modern hair dye.
In 1907, French chemist Eugène Schueller created the first synthetic hair dye specifically designed for human use, which he called "Auréole." This marked the beginning of the modern hair dye industry, with Schueller eventually founding the company that would become L'Oréal. These early synthetic dyes were primarily permanent, but as the demand for hair colour grew, so too did the need for a variety of dye types and techniques.
and it’s a hairdressers language…
So if ever you think you are "just a hairdresser" remember, you are a scientist, therapist, artist and talented individual all rolled into one!
