heat protectant and irons…

do your clients use a heat protectant when they iron their hair at home?
and what temperature is that iron at when they do?
is this a question you ask during styling at the salon?
it should be!
irons vary in temp from 110-230 deg…
you cook fish and chips in a deep fryer at 180 deg, and the spontaneous ignition point of fire is 250 deg…
20 deg hotter than the hottest iron….
something to think about…
educate your clients on the damage irons can cause, you see it every day in fried ends of hair…broken dysulfide bonds, snappy ends, hair “not growing”
(but yet there’s regrowth)
I recently viewed a reel on testing heat protectants on a thermal receipt.
the receipt sprayed with heat protectant didn’t “burn” as much as the one not sprayed…
a great experiment to do in the salon…
an iron can remove colour in front of your eyes, those bright funky colours that took hours in the salon can be destroyed by a hot iron…
that’s another great experiment
grab an old blonde hair extension, colour it with a funky colour, then hold an iron on a patch for 10 seconds and see how much that colour fades!
heat protectants aren’t just about retail.
they are about ensuring your client is educated and is looking after their hair to the best of their ability…
take the time when you are styling your clients hair to explain why you use a protectant, what the benefits are of using it, and educate them on the best temp for their iron.
silky smooth hair can be achieved just as easily with an iron set at 150 deg by using the correct products…
your clients hair is your best advertisement, so taking the time to educate them is investing in that advertisement..
